Shiretoko Shock
Our campus reps came up with an awesome idea to create massive buzz on Twitter, Facebook, Mozillaca and more called "Shiretoko Shock." It's going to require a little coordination, but it's sure to make some noise.
Here's what you do:
- Regional shocks: Set your watch for 3:50---to correspond to the new Firefox version number: 3.5. When it's 3:50 PM (that's 15:50 for those of you on 24-hr clocks) on launch day in your region make your move. We want you to tweet, blog, post to Facebook, and more. This will move around the world for 24 hours!
- We'll start at 3:50 PM in Brazil and move west, sending the Shock around the world one time zone after another.
- Super Shock: The final Shock will be a biggie---the Super Shock---because we'll all join in to celebrate at precisely the same time. No matter what time it is in your hometown, at 3:50 PM (BST) on Wednesday, July 1st, we'll all go post crazy: tweeting, blogging, facebooking, and more! It will take place on:
- Wednesday, July 1st
- 11:50 AM Pacific (San Francisco)
- 2:50 PM Eastern (New York)
- 7:50 PM GMT (London)
- Thursday, July 2nd
- 2:50 AM CST (Beijing)
- 3:50 AM JST (Tokyo)
- 12:20 AM IST (New Delhi)
- Wednesday, July 1st

PR
It's not too late to help with PR on launch day. Here's how:
Media Lists
If you plan to do any outreach for the launch, please share the list of reporters who you plan on contacting with us. This will help us get an idea of our worldwide PR reach, and will then compile this into our global media list. Please email (press at mozilla dot com) and provide:
- Name of reporter
- Name of publication
- Type of publication (business, technology magazine, blog)
- Contact email
Please indicate if you will ONLY be outreaching to reporters, or if you also plan on acting as a spokesperson.
Tracking for Coverage
Please use the Activity Tracker below to help us track for all the great press around Firefox 3.5. The form should be easy to use and a great way for us to keep track of all the great articles!
Affiliates/Site badges
As soon as Firefox 3.5 goes out the door we'll be sharing two new Firefox 3.5 Affiliate button programs on Spread Firefox.
Our first set of basic Firefox 3.5 buttons are colorful, fun, and come in any size! They are also easy to localize or customize as long as you follow the Affiliate Program's Terms of Service
Our second set of buttons are part of our campaign to "Upgrade the Web!". These buttons are smart enough to know how users see your website. If they're already using Firefox 3.5, a message applauds their Web experience. Or if they're using another browser or a dated version of Firefox, these buttons serve up the right message for that situation. All with the goal of getting everyone to upgrade to Firefox 3.5. You can check them out here.
Add one to your blog or site on launch day!
Social Media
- Digg/Reddit:
- When Firefox 3.5 launches we'll post the Mozilla Blog post announcing it on Digg and Reddit. We'll send a note to the marketing lists with the URLs. Please take a moment to drive the stories up.
- Facebook & other social networks: In addition to taking part in Shiretoko Shock you can also do the following to help drive awareness of Firefox 3.5.
- Replace your profile picture with a Firefox logo or one of our Firefox-related mascots. Foxkeh, anyone?
- "Like" or comment on our Firefox 3.5 update that we'll post on our Facebook page. This creates an awesome viral affect across Facebook.
- Help update and comment on Firefox/Mozilla-related pages on various regional social networks. You can see the list here.
- Send a Firefox gift on Facebook to your friends (they're free!)
Blog and tell the world about Firefox 3.5
Blogging or simply telling your friends, family and colleagues about Firefox 3.5 will go along way. In fact, word of mouth has always been a powerful tool for spreading Firefox. Check out Mike Beltzner's video on what's new and exciting in Firefox 3.5 to help you hone your "pitch."
