Web standards

Web standards are set of carefully prepared languages and techniques for writing web sites that preserve balance and freedom of choice in the Web. Those techniques have been crafted in the way that allows everyone to use them for free and everyone to build a browser that supports them. It's essential to ensuring that the web keeps its open nature with everyone having ability to create content and share it, and ensuring that there is no single web browser owned by single company - that a user has a choice of browsers and its solely his decision on which one he wants to use.

Mozilla project believes that open standards are fundamental to keeping the Web an open, participatory and fast developing place that keeps the costs of content creation and content reciving down to zero. In result we promote a pro-active manner with our community members promoting open standards usage among web authors to make sure that whatever they create does not discriminate users of any web browser on any operating system.

Open and free web standards are also planned in the way that supports Accessibility efforts and thus helps people having limited access to the Internet to be able to benefit from it.
